Justice Bhakthavatsala to no longer hear matrimonial disputes Karnataka High Court sees change of rosters effective September 10 2012

Justice Bhakthavatsala of the Karnataka High Court shall no longer be hearing disputes arising out of matrimonial matters. Chief Justice Vikramajit B. Sen has ordered a change in the types of matters heard by two Division Benches of the Karnataka High Court, reports Kractivist.

The change in roster comes days after an online petition was filed seeking the removal of the Judge. In the original allocation dated August 27, 2012, the Division Bench of JJ Bhakthavatsala and BS Indrakala were assigned matters relating to family disputes.

Subsequently, on September 7, 2012 a new roster list was declared effective from September 7, 2012. The assigned matters did not include appeals from the Family Court (FC) but did have appeals arising from disputes under the Special Marriage Act (SMA), the Indian Divorce Act (IDA), Guardian and Wards Act (GW) etc.

Following this another “modified” roster list (available below) was declared effective from September 10, 2012. The second page of the “modified” list dated September 7, 2012 now clearly shows that all matters relating to matrimonial disputes will no longer be heard by the Division Bench of JJ Bhakthavatsala and Indrakala.

As reported by Bar & Bench, J. Bhakthavatsal was recently in the news for his comments made in open court while hearing a matrimonial dispute.
