The first Formula1 Grand Prix slated for end October seems to be in trouble. The customs department has asked the organisers, Jaypee Sports India to pay 100 percent duty upfront on all equipment comin
Obviously, the organisers haven't been paying our babus their fair share of bribes. So our babus have decided to derail the event - the prestige of the nation and other issues be damned.
A FORMULA 1 MISHAP IN ADVANCE. The Govt. of India's move to torment the organizers of F1 is not only a counterproductive act, it is tantamount to planning a 'Formula 1 mishap in advance'. The 19th century Australian poet, Adam Lindsay Gordon, in his poetry titled "Ye Weary Wayfarer" had written---"No game was ever yet worth a rap for a rational man to play,---Into which no accident, no mishap, could possibly find its way". The customs department is certainly going to bring in a mishap into F1, if the event is called off. The authorities must mend their crude ways of handling a rarely-organized international event in the country. The event should not be nipped in the bud.
The worthies were obviously aware of the customs rules--they would have hired some expensive legal counsel for all their due diligences--but chose not to because they because they were confident of getting away with it after creating a last-minute shindy.
There does not exist a single reason why they should be given any benefit on customs duty or any other tax in India!
