NYU LLM Vasuki Sunkavalli has been crowned as Miss Universe India 2011 in a contest called ‘I Am She’ organised by former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen’s production company Tantra Entertainment. She will now be competing for Miss Universe title in August in Brazil.
Vasuki is a lawyer by profession and has also managed to pursue a career in modelling. Vasuki is a graduate from 2007 batch of Symbiosis Law School, Pune. She received her LLM in International Law and Human Rights from NYU Law School last year. Vasunki has previously interned at AZB & Partners and National Human rights Committee, according to her Linkedin profile.
Vasuki is a perfect example of ‘beauty with brains’. Vasuki loves travelling and exploring new places.
Vasuki on winning the title told Hindu, “The feeling has sunk in well and I am little relaxed now, though I am preparing for the Ms Universe pageant. At the moment I am looking forward to coming to Hyderabad to meet my family and friends”.
According to Hindu, Vasuki feels lucky that she has been able to do justice to both her passions. She said, “I always wanted to do law and modelling was also there at the back of my mind. I don't think it is impossible for a person to do two different things; all one needs is the passion and zeal to follow the dream”.
She got her first modelling assignment when she walked the ramp for designer Rajesh Pratap Singh at the fashion week.
It’s interesting to see how lawyers are pursuing their dreams and are making a mark in different streams. Even lawyers who are practicing full time have managed to pursue their dreams and passions. NLS Alum Khushi Mishra, working at Luthra & Luthra has taken to photography and recently held her photography exhibition. Bar & Bench has previously covered mountaineering enthusiast and JSA Partner, Somasekhar Sundaresan; Sameer Singh and Mathew Chandy’s Mooli’s, a restaurant in Soho, London and author of two books Aditya Sudarshan who recently penned down his second book, ‘Show me a hero’.
