Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar has almost got over with their placements. Out of a batch of 155 students; only 85 students sat for placements. 70 students have got placements including 9 pre-placement offers (PPOs).  A few more are there in the pipeline said GNLU authorities.

Amarchand & Mangaldas picked a record high of 15 students from GNLU; even in NLSIU and NUJS only 12 students were picked by them. Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation recruited 5 students. Pangea3 and Torrent Power picked 4 students each.

Prominent recruiters include Lakshmi Kumaran & Sridharan, who recruited 3 students; Wadia Ghandy, Trilegal, Khaitan & Co., Bajaj Allianz, Titus and Co. and Economic Law Practice.

Recruitment statistics of GNLU are as follows:

Bar & Bench spoke to Swetlana Vanar, Placement Coordinator, Committee on Recruitment Affairs, Gujarat National Law University.

Your Placement Process: For the 2006-11 batch, it had been on the rolling basis, where the recruiters were invited throughout the year. For the current year we are starting off the placements with a placement week with Day Zero placements as well. As we aim for maximum placements, what matters more is that the students get the best opportunities.

On overall recruitments: PSUs, Banking companies, Insurance companies; these are some of the areas where hundreds of good lawyers are required. Placing students with such organizations will add greatly to the overall placements.

Is GNLU ripe enough to be placed with other top premier law schools: GNLU's efforts are focused on being a ROLE MODEL.  We aspire to be an example for all to follow

Government and VC's support: GNLU Director, Bimal Patel has been a great support to the Recruitment process. He has himself reached out to many recruiters in person and continues to do so. He also visits with potential recruiters to encourage the placements process.

The Government as well has been highly supportive and encouraging the projects taken up by GNLU whether it be recruitment or academics.

Student involvement in recruitment process, how much democratic is it: The Committee of Recruitment Affairs at GNLU consists of Student representatives from the Graduating batch. They are committed to aide and work for better placement opportunities for one and all. Their inputs are just as crucial as the other faculty and staff members of the committee as they represent their batch's ideas, concerns and suggestions.

The efforts of GNLU alumni are also commendable. They have come forth and reached out to their Alma mater as and when opportunities have risen. They have been a great support in establishing a good base within the legal fraternity that it will lead the upcoming batches to get better & bigger opportunities.

  • 2. "yes, please let us call all the top law firms before they go to NUJS, It is our time now. I hope Amarchand repeats this historic intake. next year I want GNLU to have the best recruitment, even better than NUJS'.". Aasth, New Delhi
  • 3. "The placement figures are not accurate...many more have got placed...in fact ...in JSA as well...PPO's...and many other firms...even luthra...". Insider, (Unknown City?)
  • 4. "More than 15 students are going abroad to Top universities for masters..to places like Oxford,LSE,NYU,UCL Berkely,NUS to say the least... infact the only law student from India representing the Ministry of External Affairs Delegation to International law Commission at Geneva is from GNLU this year...". • 5. "Good to see such a young law school fare so well in the placements...Its a clear indicator that National Law Schools are the best in India. If I m not wrong this was GNLU's 3rd passing out batch and yet they clearly have a lead over Symbiosis,ILS and GLC and from the figures its clear they beat NLIU Bhopal as well in terms of placements and quality. I must say its a challenge for any national law school to place such a mammoth batch.GNLU is undoubtedly the next NLU entering the Tier league in say 3 years from now, when it'd have its stand consolidated in the legal market. This also speaks volumes about the progress of the Gujarat State...I'v heard the best and the costliest law campus is coming up for GNLU by this years end...funded by the Modi administration... ". Ankhur , Banglore
  • 6. "I would rate GNLU's placement any day over other law schools, including the so called top tier ones. just look at the variety and the quality of jobs students have bagged. i think it's time that people should regard GNLU with respect it deserves.Go GNLU..". Kini, New Delhi
  • 7. "Only amarchand has recruited; no other prominent firm has recruited in bulk.". Only Amarchand, No One Else, (Unknown City?)
  • 8. "The 15 AMSS placements are obviously the Gujju mafia at work. Why did the other top firms not recruit? Obviously because GNLU is not yet up to the mark. NLSIU, NUJS and NALSAR will always remain the top preferences.". Gujju Mafia, (Unknown City?)
  • 9. "seems like sme1 is Jiillllus :Ohey gujju mafia tame koi kaam dhaam nahthi 6..dogs barks and elephant goes in its own mastii, so same seem to be with u..think that ur nlu did'nt got the best placements that is why is ur shouting here but :O". Jealousy @ Its Best, (Unknown City?)
  • 10. "@ 1 & @ 2:ha.. ha!! what has NUJS done to you guys to deserve so much of aggression. I sincerely wish you guys do wonders in future, but why better than just "NUJS"?". Why So Serious?, Uptown
  • 11. "AMSS picking up 15 from GNLU...Well congrats on the "achievement". But comparing GNLU to NUJS, i must say is absurd. There is an apt saying, 'You should reach out for the stars but keep your foot on the ground.' I hope the GNULites understand this and be realistic and nt be overwhelmed by the AMSS pick ups. N the point of Gujjus is to be noted. ". Not Impressive, GUJARAT
  • 12. "15 have been recruited... Wah! wah! but how long will all of them stick there... lts have this conversation again after say 2 years... lets see how many remain. PS: why do Noo(bies)jies seem so desperate to make their presence felt? Well I guess they seem to have purchased an ISP, free internet they all have.. :P". Parekhbhai, Mumbai
  • 13. "Hi Guys....@ 11 and @ 12......I think you make a fair point that we should not as of now compare ourselves to a college like NUJS...forget about NLS...coz thats like way ahead of everybody (just because its the oldest and still the top preference for students giving clat every yr)...but still the way u guys say it dusn seem like someone who is at a better place trying to politely tell people that we need to do better....fyi..we know that...and yes p.s. wats the point in being cocky about it yaar...all of us will be in the same Industry....and for facts....nobody says GNLU is better than NUJS it has to have its time in the market....cheers...stop jeering :) ".
