Today CLAT website has put the first list of students who will get into the various NLU’s and also the first waiting list has come up; both for UG and PG programmes. This year around 24000 students wrote CLAT.

Though this year’s CLAT had significant changes from old patterns; the results when announced made the students really impatient.

Analysis of CLAT Results (General Category–First List) by Mr.Rajneesh Singh, Product Manager (National) for the law course at IMS Learning Resources.

There are no significant changes in the preference of the student in CLAT 2011 in comparison to CLAT 2010 except that GNLU has clearly gained a better image.  The Given chart clarifies everything. The conclusion can be taken out from the last column.

There are buffer seats included this year and also many NLUs have increased their seats. Therefore I have calculated the surplus seats and negated that from this year cut off so that comparison can be done in non-biased way. I have only considered the cut off rank as the parameter for judging the popularity and not minor fluctuations since that can be misleading.

NLSIU - Bangalore--------------- Indicator ( -3)

NLSIU has almost maintained what it was in 2010. But slight deviation is there as students have shown tendency to take up NUJS and NALSAR instead of NLSIU.

NALSAR - Hyderabad----------------- Indicator (-10) 

NALSAR almost has same status it had last year but some erosion of students towards NUJS.

WBNUJS -Kolkata --------------------- Indicator (20) 

Has fared well this time compared to last year. The gain is mostly due to erosion of students mainly from NLIU and few from NALSAR. Cent percent placements have happened this year and this was published on time. Although indicator is only 20; has put a good fight with NALSAR and NLSIU.

NLIU - Bhopal- ---------------------Indicator (-21)

NLIU continues to be less opted.  Erosion of students mainly towards NUJS and few towards NLU-Jodhpur and GNLU.  I feel the drop will be more significant after the final cut off comes.

NLU - Jodhpur ------------------------- Indicator (18)  

The gain has continued. At rank 5; the gain of 18 is not that significant but it is still going good. Good placements have helped to maintain the status.

GNLU - Gandhinagar ------------------- Indicator (75) 

The biggest gainer of CLAT 2011. Mainly due to two factors; Much better placements than last ones  and the new campus is also getting ready soon. Has a good VC since last two years and good support  is also there from the CM.

HNLU - Raipur -------------------------- Indicator (6)

Status is almost the same as last year. But better placements have helped to maintain the status.

RMLNLU - Lucknow)------------- Indicator (-3)

Status is almost the same as last year. But considering the fact it’s a new NLU, the indicator will rise up in the coming years and decent placements have happened for the first batch.

NUALS - Kochi    ------------ Indicator (-22)

Cochin was the last one to join CLAT. Still it has been able to maintain a rank of 9. Good placements have helped to maintain that. Indicator is negative but at rank 9; -22 is not very significant.

RGNLU - Patiala ------------------------- Indicator (-8)

Same status as that of last year.  The new campus is almost done; that will help to improve things.

CNLU - Patna ---------------------------- Indicator (-21)

Same status as that of last year. Decent placements are there and the new campus is almost done; that will help to improve.
