CLAT Results: Conversation with third rank holder Rudrajit Ghosh

Bar & Bench News Network

May 30, 2011

Bar & Bench spoke to IMS student Rudrajit Ghosh who ranked third in CLAT with 167 marks.

When Law and Why: When I was in 8th standard, seeing that I loved debating, scored well in Civics and wrote considerably well, I started searching for a career where I could capitalise on these skills. Law was the best option under the sun.

Law as career: It is extremely promising for those who love to face challenges. It does need a lot of grit and determination to stay afloat as a lawyer, but one is always rewarded well in this profession for his toil.

Details of Preparation

When to start: As far as CLAT preparations are concerned, the earlier one can start, the better. But 11th standard is the optimum time for beginning serious preparations.

How to prepare various topics:

English: For grammar, regular practice of sentence construction, transformations, prepositions, and verb-subject agreement is essential. For, Comprehension, One do LSAT model comprehensions and if possible, solve a few CAT passages as well.

Maths: Regular practice is all that one needs and the most vital thing that one needs. CLAT maths is simple but tricky, so instead of wrestling with hard problems, one should learn to solve normal problems at a fast pace.

Logical Reasoning: Here too, alike English, LSAT is the best choice. Regular practice pays a rich dividend.

Legal Reasoning: Solving past papers of NLSIU is the best thing one can do. Added to that, the Class assignments should also be taken seriously.

G.K/ Current Affairs: Reading a news magazine like P.D or Chronicle, keeping abreast with current happenings from newspaper and International TV channels, and skimming through a Concise Pearson Guide might help.

Other Books: A good yearbook, Kaplan's LSAT Guide, A 10th Standard maths book like M.L Agarwal.

Inspirations: Sachin Tendulkar, Lionel Messi, Shashi Tharoor and the successful part of every person's life.

Thankful to: Parents, entire IMS team, especially Rajneesh Sir and Amrita Mam, LST(the other coaching centre where I had enrolled), Mrs. Tanima Chaudhury ( My English Tutor), Mr. Saurav Bhanja ( The teacher who taught me the art of Debating).

About IMS: It is a good institute that offers excellent Classroom coaching and real-time Mock Test experience. The guidance of IMS is extremely valuable and positively helpful.
