He has shown no hesitation in taking on the Bench and has definitely set in motion various welfare measures for the Bar. In February, barely two months after he was elected, Dave, in his personal capacity, wrote a scathing letter to Chief Justice HL Dattu opposing the proposed elevation of Justice Mohit Shah from the Bombay High Court to the Supreme Court. The Collegium, it was rumoured, was considering elevating Shah to the Supreme Court though it did not eventually happen..In the same month, the SCBA mooted a resolution condemning the treatment meted out to lawyers by Justice PC Ghose and Chief Justice HL Dattu. The changes in the listing of matters including sudden listing of admitted cases which was causing inconvenience to the Bar had also been a trigger for this. However, the resolution was not passed since the Chief Justice met Dave, discussed various issues and chalked out amicable solutions..The tiff with the Bench continued post summer vacation when the SCBA once again proposed to pass a resolution – this time threatening to boycott the farewell functions of the judges..The trigger for this move was that,.“…Just requests on Infrastructural Issues, made on behalf of thousands of Lawyers, who are the Members of the Supreme Court Bar Association are not even considered in right earnest, much less granted.”.However, this plan was also deferred after the Chief Justice constituted a grievance committee comprising 5 judges to look into the grievances of the SCBA..Meanwhile, significant progress was made in other fronts – the issue pertaining to accommodation of members in flats and various welfare schemes for Bar members saw significant progress..The SCBA elections, which are held in December every year, elects the Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar. It remains to be seen who all will pit themselves against Dave this year.
