1. Indira Jaising v. Supreme Court of India through Secretary General and Ors.

[Item 48 in court 4 – Writ Petition (Civil) 454/2015]

Bench: Ranjan Gogoi, Ashok Bhushan JJ.

Petition filed by Senior Advocate and former Additional Solicitor General Indira Jaising in the Supreme Court challenging the allegedly non-transparent and arbitrary method followed by the apex court in designating Senior Advocates.

Petition filed in 2015 concerning drought in different States.

4. Re-Inhuman Conditions in 1,382 Prisons v. State of Assam

[Item 53 in court 5 – Writ Petition (Civil) 406/2013]

Bench: Madan B Lokur, Prafulla C Pant JJ.

Order in the case pertaining to inhuman treatment of prisoners and under-trials in jails. Last year, the court had issued a slew of directions to ensure better conditions for prisoners.

5. In Re letter dated 09-12-2016 from the Hon’ Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura

Case relating to the lack of judges in the Tripura High Court, which makes recusals difficult. Read more here.

Today in Court: The matter was dismissed. The Bench directed that cases where both parties were agreeable to transfer the case to the Guwahati High should be transferred therein. Where parties were not agreeable to the transfer, the Court allowed them to give consent for transfer through the Registrar General of the concerned High Court.


Delhi High Court

1. Procter & Gamble Home Products Pvt Ltd v. Hindustan Unilever Ltd.

[CS (OS) 459/2016; Court No. 21 Item No. 13]

Bench: Rajiv Sahai Endlaw J.

Suit for injunction filed by P&G against HUL over HUL’s advertisement for Clinic Plus Strong and Long Shampoo. Justice Endlaw has granted an interim injunction in favour of the plaintiff after hearing arguments by Senior counsel Rajiv Nayyar and AS Chandiok.

According to P&G, the advertisement for HUL’s Clinic Plus shampoo makes, “false, unsubstantiated and malicious statements” against P&G’s Head & Shoulders shampoo.

2. Uber India Systems Private Limited and Anr. v. Sarvodaya Driver Association of Delhi and Ors.

[CS (OS) 64/2017; Court No. 21 Item No. 23]

Bench: Rajiv Sahai Endlaw J.

Suit for injunction and damages filed by Uber against two driver unions in Delhi in regard to the recent indefinite strike by the company’s drivers.
