Senior Advocate and President of the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association Yatin Oza is all set to join Aam Aadmi Party, reports PTI..He will be meeting AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today..“This is an informal meeting with Kejriwal but you can consider myself as having already joined AAP. A formal meeting will take place in Delhi coming Tuesday,” he told PTI..According to the report, Oza has said that he will target Narendra Modi over the “rampant corruption promoted by his government”. He has also expressed his displeasure at the attacks by the Modi government on judiciary..“I am aggrieved at the way Modi is attacking judiciary and such attacks are being made to weaken it.”.Oza was designated Senior Advocate at the age of 39. He has served as President of Gujarat High Court Advocates Association 16 times. An ex-MLA, Oza was initially a member of the BJP. In 2001, Oza had left BJP and joined Congress party after some differences with Keshubhai Patel. After his brief stint with Congress party, he had returned to BJP in 2007. Oza was close to Narendra Modi and has spoken on behalf of Modi on various TV debates..Recently, however, he had created a storm when he wrote to Chief Justice TS Thakur criticising Justices MR Shah and KS Jhaveri of Gujarat High Court as owing allegiance to Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. The letter also had strong remarks against the Gujarat High Court..Oza tried to secure the Gujarat High Court Advocate Association’s post-facto approval for the two letters and it was to be put to vote on April 27. However, the same was opposed by certain lawyers and advocate Khemchand Rajaram Khosti filed a petition in Gujarat High Court seeking initiation of contempt against Oza. The High Court had proceeded to give an urgent hearing to the case and issued notice to Oza under the Contempt of Courts Act..Oza had then approached the Supreme Court which has stayed the contempt proceedings. However, in a subsequent hearing, Justice Dipak Misra had taken exception to Oza’s remarks against the High Court..This case is now listed for final disposal on August 31. Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal and AM Singhvi had appeared for Oza in the matter..Image taken from here.
