The appeal filed by four convicts in the 2012 Delhi gang rape case will be heard by Supreme Court today. It is coming up for hearing before a 3-judge Bench of Justices Dipak Misra, V Gopala Gowda and Kurian Joseph.
The matter, listed at two in the afternoon, is coming up for hearing after nearly two years. It was last heard on August 25 in 2014 when the court had directed the matter to be placed before a 3-judge Bench since it involved the death sentence.
In September of 2013, the four accused had been sentenced to death. The Delhi High Court had upheld the death sentence on March 13, 2014 whereupon the accused had appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had stayed the execution of the accused on March 15, 2014.
Out of the six accused in the case, one a juvenile, was tried by the Juvenile Justice Board which found him guilty and sentenced him to 3 years at a Special home. He was released in December last year after he served his term.
The main accused in the case, Ram Singh, had committed suicide inside the Jail.
